DALLAS – The state of Illinois has turned to Xerox (NYSE: XRX) to support a program that helps people in need make ends meet.
Under a five-year contract valued at $42 million with the option for a five-year renewal, Xerox will provide the state with electronic benefit transfer (EBT) services to distribute benefits for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps), as well as cash assistance on a reloadable card. The card can be used for approved purchases at authorized retailers and ATMs.
Xerox has supported Illinois’ program since 2003 as a subcontractor and is now the prime contractor, processing transactions, managing interactions with retailers and ATM networks, issuing EBT cards and providing customer support.
